There has been an invisible wall in the nomad community: the one separating the nomads and the locals that welcomes them.

Digital nomads are people brave enough to leave behind the traditional sedentary way of living and travel the world while working, but oftentimes they are not brave enough to really meet, live and connect with the local communities.

In this way, nomads have become just a bit better than tourists: we still consume what the locals provide — we just do it a bit longer and intentionally. In a world where popular destinations are “dying” from over tourism, that's not enough anymore.

As nomads, we quickly realized that the people are the real reason why we keep traveling. For many, this is the rediscovery of the lost sense of belonging: something that the monetization of extreme individualism has taken away from most westernized communities. Traveling with groups or living in a new continent, made us realize that we could form what we often missed at home: a tribe, a community of supporting peers, people that did things differently and are showing everyone what is now possible.

It's no surprise then that nomads started creating occasions for gatherings to find their tribe: nomad fests, retreats and themed workations are all part of the collective answer to our basic human need of connectedness.

These events are great and much needed, but after some iterations there has been a new struggle: they are often just a bubble of nomads in a foreign location, with little to no interaction with the local communities making the event possible in the first place: people providing hospitality, infrastructure, food, activities and so on, are somehow left out of the new global, connected community.

That's an important part of the puzzle missing: if we're always traveling with the same 10 nomads we met at that awesome retreat on a tropical island, then we're back at square one. Being tourists, doing touristic things, together with other tourists.

That's what Italia Nomad Fest does NOT want to be: a bunch of nomads meeting in a new location just to mark a new flag in their checklist.

You bet on it: we're bringing down the wall!

Italia Nomad Fest will be for nomads AND for locals to meet, learn from each other and create a network that goes beyond laptops at the beach.

This is where Italy is entering the group chat: land of outstanding landscapes, arts, history and cuisine, is at risk of losing her charm: at best is an overcrowded destination, at worst a perpetual tourist trap.

But silently, she's been protected by relentless knights. They had dreams of serene, slower lives, in locations off the beaten path. They are the owners of coliving and retreats that dared to make their dreams a reality: showing to visitors the extreme beauty of Italy's nature, food and personal, warm hospitality.

We are inviting as many as we can to the Fest: so anyone can talk to them, see their work, the community they created, and travel back with them to join their colivings after the Fest is over.

If this is not the cure to a sick way of traveling, and to the loneliness pandemic, we don't know what else.

How are we going to make it?

Made In Italy and Italians Do It Better are just two of the labels signaling how thoughtful care and mastery lead to excellence: as every Ferrari car, cannolo Siciliano or Valentino dress weren't clear enough signals :D

Italia Nomad Fest is organized by people that know both the nomad's and the local’s needs (because we're both).

Workshop, talks and events held by locals will hopefully break the bubble many nomads ended up in. And the knowledge nomads will bring from traveling the world will inspire locals to go beyond any limiting belief they had held so far.

If any of this made you smile, laugh or move from your seat, we invite you to join Italia Nomad Fest in Palermo, March 8-15 2026.

We're preparing a memorable event.
